Lot of 3 cards from perhaps the important figure in Cuban baseball History, Adolfo Luque. Known as "Papa Montero," Luque pitched for 22 seasons in the Cuban League. He also managed for 30 seasons.
His 20-year Major League career included one of the best seasons every by a pitcher when in 1923 he went 27-8 with a 1.93 ERA.
Luque won his 1st World Series as a member of the 1919 Cincinnati Reds. 14 years later he was on the mound when the New York Giants clinched the 1933 Series giving him a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA in World Series play.
He was also an excellent hitter, for a pitcher, with a lifetime .227 batting average in over 1,000 at-bats. In 1926, he recorded a .346 average!
