The 1937 tournament itself is one of the most notorious episodes in baseball history. Trujillo directly engineered the competition, merging Santo Domingo clubs and importing elite Negro League talent—including Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, and Cool Papa Bell—to create a stacked roster intended to showcase national strength and political control. The Dragones ultimately won the championship over the Santiago team (with Martín Dihigo) that is pictured on the scoreboard in this postcard, but the season is remembered as much for its political coercion and military atmosphere as for its baseball quality.
