Incredibly rare 1937 Rafael Trujillo Dominican baseball propaganda real photo postcard. This rare postcard is tied to the infamous 1937 Dominican Championship season organized under dictator Rafael Trujillo, when the capital was renamed Ciudad Trujillo and a super-team (“Dragones de Ciudad Trujillo”) was assembled to dominate the league.

The 1937 tournament itself is one of the most notorious episodes in baseball history. Trujillo directly engineered the competition, merging Santo Domingo clubs and importing elite Negro League talent—including Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, and Cool Papa Bell—to create a stacked roster intended to showcase national strength and political control. The Dragones ultimately won the championship over the Santiago team (with Martín Dihigo) that is pictured on the scoreboard in this postcard, but the season is remembered as much for its political coercion and military atmosphere as for its baseball quality. Armed guards were present around players, and the competition operated under intense pressure, as Trujillo viewed victory as a personal validation of his dictatorship.
