Political advertisement in support of Antonio Prio’s failed mayoral campaign. “En el terreno estamos divididos pero con Antonio Alcade marchamos todos unidos.” This translates to “On the field we are divided, but with mayor Antonio we all march united.” Image shows all four Cuban professional team mascots holding up a banner in support of Prio. The 1949-50 Alerta set was also issued in support of Prio, whose image can be found at the bottom of each premium.
Antonio Prío ran for Mayor of Havana in 1950 but lost the election to the incumbent, Nicolás Castellanos. He was defeated due to the immense popularity of Castellanos (who was backed by the Republican Party), his own association with the scandals and corruption of the outgoing Auténtico party administration of his brother, President Carlos Prío Socarrás, and a fragmented political coalition that split the opposition vote.
