1949-50 Toleteros George Scales (No moustache variation) graded a 2.5 by SGC. This is the tougher of the two variations. Scales had a 26-year playing career in the Negro Leagues that saw him hit .325 lifetime while playing all four infield positions regularly. He was primarily known as a second baseman, and in the famous 1952 Pittsburgh Courier poll, he was voted the 4th best second baseman in Negro League history. He was also an excellent manager and is considered a legitimate Hall of Fame candidate.
The second Toleteros set expanded to 216 cards and retained the game-card concept. Measuring about 1¼" x 2¼", the cards feature black-and-white portrait photography with player names below the image. They were distributed in Puerto Rico through candy products and included numerous Negro League and Major League stars.
