1950-51 Toleteros Luke Easter SGC 7 (High Grade). This is a pop 9 card at SGC with just one (a 7.5) higher than this stunning SGC 7.

Nicknamed El Magnifico in Puerto Rico, Easter was a mountain of a man known for his size, pure power, and cheerful disposition. Easter hit towering home runs everywhere he played. He broke into MLB as a 34-year-old "rookie."

On June 23, 1950, he slugged a legendary, record-setting 477-foot home run into the second deck at Cleveland Municipal Stadium. He was named the American League's Outstanding Player by a Sporting News survey after hitting 31 home runs in 1952.

Perhaps a victim of bad timing, Easter would likely be in HOF consideration if his entire career had been spent in either the Negro Leagues or MLB.

After retiring from baseball, Easter worked as a shop steward and polisher for TRW in Euclid, Ohio. On March 29, 1979, he was fatally shot and killed during an armed robbery in a bank parking lot while cashing payroll and pension checks for his coworkers. A park in Cleveland's Mount Pleasant neighborhood was later renamed Luke Easter Park in his honor.

The standard 1950-51 Toleteros issue marked a major visual upgrade, switching to color photography and larger cards measuring roughly 1¾" x 2½". Unlike the earlier sets, these cards are blank-backed rather than game cards. The issue is especially prized for its striking photography and legendary player roster, including rare cards of Negro League stars such as Josh Gibson.
