1949-50 Alerta Premium of Negro Leaguer, Claro Duany. Duany played in the Negro Leagues with the New York Cubans and was a member of their 1947 championship team. He won two batting titles in his native Cuba, as well as two more in Mexico.
The 1949-50 Alerta premium set features 70 different baseball players from the four teams in the Cuban Baseball League. There are 18 each for Almendares and Habana, and 17 each for Cienfuegos and Marianao. They measure 8" by 11" and are on a thin, but good quality paper stock. They were issued by "Alerta," which was a print publication that could be described as somewhere between a newspaper an a magazine. At the bottom of each premium there is an advertisement (a.k.a political propaganda) for Antonio Prío who was running for mayor of Havana in 1950. He lost the election, but will live forever in the hearts of Cuban baseball collectors due to this set which is loaded with Negro Leaguers like Ray Dandridge (HOF), Quincy Trouppe, Lennie Pearson, Max Manning, and many others.
