1923-24 Nacionales Cigarros card #C-59, Merven “Red” Ryan, graded SGC 2. This is a pop 11 card at SGC in all grades. Ryan was an American Negro Leagues star pitcher with a long career. A little guy known for his speedball, knuckleball, and composure on the mound, Ryan played primarily for the Hilldale Club from 1915 to 1932. He was a key figure on the 1923–1925 Hilldale Eastern Colored League pennant winners and won the 1925 championship.
Nacionales Cigarros cards feature striking black-and-white real-photo portraits on small paper stock measuring roughly 1½" x 2½". The 40-card set was distributed with Nacionales cigars and includes advertising text on the reverse. The issue is especially important for its early appearances of Negro League and Cuban stars such as Cristóbal Torriente, José Méndez, Andy Cooper, Adolfo Luque, and Alejandro Oms.
