1948 Mexican League program with Negro Leaguer Barney Serrell on cover. The 1948 Mexican League season was part of the league’s most famous “golden disruption” era, when Jorge Pasquel aggressively recruited Negro League and MLB talent to elevate the league’s level and challenge Major League Baseball’s dominance.

Players like Satchel Paige and many established Negro League veterans—including Barney Serrell (a.k.a. Bonnie), who also played in Mexico late in his career—became key attractions. In addition to Serrell, the scorecard also lists notables such as Booker McDaniels, Luis Tiant Sr., Silvio García, Marvin Williams, Theolic Smith, and Leon Day.
