1974 Laughlin Old Time Black Stars complete set w/ 13 PSA graded cards, mostly mid grade to ex, with a few major stars as notable lower-grade exceptions (Charleston 1.5, Gibson 2).

Issued in 1974 when major card manufacturers focused exclusively on contemporary Major League players, this black-and-white (brown and tan, really) set documented pre-integration baseball pioneers who were banned from the majors due to their race.

This 36-card set was created by sports artist R.G. Laughlin and pays tribute to some of the greatest players of the Negro Leagues. At the time of issue, no playing-days cards were known to the American audience, making these cards the only way to collect Negro Leaguers at the time.

While only 4 featured players (such as Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson) were enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame when the set was released, 22 of the 36 players to date have been inducted into Cooperstown.

Cards measure a standard 2-5/8” by 3-½”.

The checklist includes Pop Lloyd (PSA 3), Oscar Charleston (PSA 1.5), Josh Gibson (PSA 2), Pete Hill (PSA 5), Satchel Paige (PSA 4), Martin Dihigo (PSA 4), Cristobal Torriente (PSA 5), Buck Leonard (PSA 3), Cool Papa Bell (PSA 2), Judy Johnson (PSA 2), Rube Foster (PSA 5), Smoky Joe Williams (PSA 2), Mule Suttles (PSA 5), Frank Grant, Homerun Johnson, Ray Dandridge, Biz Mackey, Jud Wilson, Jose Mendez, Willie Wells, Louis Santop, Dan Mcclellan, Charlie Grant, Oliver Marcelle, Spot Poles, Cannonball Dick Redding, Fats Jenkins, Willie Foster, Bill Monroe, Jimmie Lyons, Bullet Rogan, Dave Malarcher, Rap Dixon, Jelly Gardner, John Beckwith, and Bingo DeMoss.
