1923-24 Billiken card of José “Acostica” Acosta. Known simply as “Acostica” being the younger brother of Merito Acosta, one of the first Cubans to play in the Majors in 1913.
Acostica was one of just a handful of players to play in the Major Leagues, the Cuban Leagues and the Negro Leagues. He lead the Cuban league in pitching 5 times, a record he shares with the great José Méndez. He made his Major League debut in 1920.
The 1923-24 Billiken set is considered by many to be the greatest issue ever produced in Cuba with breathtaking images of some of the all-time greats. This card shows Acostica as a member of the Marianao team.
Graded a 50 (VG/EX) by SGC. A very clean example.
