Tetelo Vargas. Many consider Vargas to be the greatest Dominican player of all-time. His Negro League career began in 1927 and lasted through 1944. His lifetime average was .339.
Nicknamed "The Dominican Deer," Vargas began playing in his home Dominican Republic in 1923. In 1953, 30 years later, he won the batting title hitting .350 at the age of 46! He also won the batting title in Puerto Rico in 1943-44 hitting .410.
Vargas is a HOFer in the Dominican Republic as well as Puerto Rico. One of the greatest players most have never heard of.
