Mirabal was a talented Cuban American right handed pitcher who starred in both the Negro Leagues and the Cuban Winter League during the 1920s. Pitching primarily for the Cuban Stars East, Mirabal was known for his excellent control, sinking fastball, and deceptive curveball. He also helped Marianao capture the 1922-23 Cuban League title and later excelled for Habana alongside many of the era’s top Cuban and Negro League stars. Following his playing career, he remained influential as an executive with both the Cuban Stars and New York Cubans organizations.
Nacionales Cigarros cards feature striking black-and-white real-photo portraits on small paper stock measuring roughly 1½" x 2½". The 40-card set was distributed with Nacionales cigars and includes advertising text on the reverse. The issue is especially important for its early appearances of Negro League and Cuban stars such as Cristóbal Torriente, José Méndez, Andy Cooper, Adolfo Luque, and Alejandro Oms.
